IV Sedation

The objective of sedation education, particularly in the context of IV sedation in dentistry, encompasses the development of a deep understanding of various critical aspects:

  • Chemistry: Grasping the chemical properties of sedative agents, their interactions, and how they affect the human body at the molecular level.
  • Physiology: Understanding how sedation impacts bodily functions, including the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems, ensuring safety and minimizing risks.
  • Pharmacology: Comprehending the mechanisms of action, dosages, onset times, durations, and potential side effects of sedative drugs, along with their reversal agents.
  • Mathematics: Applying precise calculations for drug dosages based on patient weight, medical history, and procedural needs to ensure effective and safe sedation.
  • Practical Application: Utilizing sedation techniques wisely, intellectually, and safely—grounded in evidence-based methods. The goal is to guide patients through a continuum of sedation, specifically aiming for level 2 sedation, where patients are minimally sedated but still responsive to commands, and ensuring their smooth recovery to full consciousness.
  • The goal is to practice sedation not just safely but in alignment with the principles of etiology, ensuring that sedation decisions are informed by a clear understanding of the underlying causes and patient conditions. Through WISE (Wisdom Implant Sedation Education), these principles form the foundation of sedation practice, ensuring optimal outcomes for both the practitioner and the patient.

Implant

The objective of the implantology course, as part of Wisdom Implant Sedation Education (WISE), is to equip participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform dental implant procedures safely and effectively. The course focuses on

  • Basic Fundamentals of Implantology: Understanding key principles such as bone anatomy, osseointegration, implant systems, and patient selection to ensure a strong foundational grasp of implantology.
  • Safe Treatment Planning: Learning to develop individualized, risk-assessed treatment plans for implant cases by analyzing diagnostic tools like radiographs and CT scans, ensuring predictable and safe outcomes.
  • Complication Management: Building the skills needed to anticipate, manage, and resolve potential complications during implant procedures, including addressing surgical risks and ensuring post-operative care for successful healing.
  • Clinical Implant Placement in Live Patients: Gaining hands-on experience by placing implants in live patients, under supervision, to master surgical techniques, enhance precision, and ensure both functional and aesthetic success.
  • This course is designed to prepare practitioners to confidently plan and execute implant treatments while prioritizing patient safety, complication management, and clinical excellence.

Wisdom

The objective of the course, as part of the WISE curriculum, is to teach participants the WISE methodology of dental extractions, focusing on the following key areas

  • Mechanics and Physics of Extraction: Understanding the forces, principles, and tools involved in performing extractions efficiently while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues.
  • Complication Management: Learning to anticipate and address potential complications during extractions, such as fractures, bleeding, or adjacent tooth damage, to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Clinical Application: Applying this knowledge in clinical practice through hands-on experience, allowing practitioners to perform extractions with confidence, precision, and adherence to the highest standards of care.
  • Clinical Implant Placement in Live Patients: Gaining hands-on experience by placing implants in live patients, under supervision, to master surgical techniques, enhance precision, and ensure both functional and aesthetic success.
  • This course prepares participants to integrate the WISE methodology into their clinical workflows, ensuring optimal patient outcomes in both routine and complex extraction cases.

By mastering these three essential skill sets—implantology, sedation, and the WISE methodology of extractions—you position yourself among the top 5% of your colleagues in dentistry. Not only will you advance your clinical expertise, but you'll also elevate your practice to a higher standard, becoming a wiser, more proficient clinician overall. This holistic approach not only enhances your technical abilities but also deepens your understanding of patient care, allowing you to lead with confidence and precision in your field.
